Holy Cow! It works! (Or, how I backed up my entire LJ to IJ)
I did it by following these instructions.

Every single entry from my LJ is now here.

Granted, it doesn't transfer over comments, user pics, or tags, or embedded media (i.e., YouTube) but the entries themselves (all 972 of 'em) landed here with no problems at all. In fact, even the security settings were preserved! So posts that were friends' locked stayed friends' locked. And posts that were marked private stayed private!

Just substitute "greatestjournal" in the instructions for "insanejournal" and you're golden!

Since I only just got IJ a few weeks ago, I only had to eliminate a few double posts, but other than that...*swoons.*

I just set the stage for permanent flight if I need to.

I'm sure I'll have to go back and edit some posts, as well as go through the whole tagging process, but damn if I didn't just save myself a ton of work.

ETA: It turns out that you can check and uncheck the posts you want to transfer, even if you do "transfer all." If there's a post you don't want here or are uncomfortable transferring; or if you've been backing things up here and don't want a double-post, just scroll down and uncheck the post so it won't transfer.
